Welcome
Welcome to the Wound Care Alliance UK website.
My name is Louise Toner and it is my privilege and pleasure to be the current Chair of WCAUK, a new charitable organisation formed from the former Wound Care Society and Tissue Viability Nurses Association. We have amalgamated with the aim of providing information, advice and guidance for the everyday practitioner and specialists working in the field of Tissue Viability, in addition to being a significant voice for tissue viability for both practitioners and patients. As a Registered Charity we are bound by Charities Governance in the pursuance of our mission and objects and these can be found in our links section.
We are grateful for the support of our members and to those commercial organisations that sponsor us; a list of sponsors is available by clicking the link to the side. The Trustees are, in the main, specialists in the field of tissue viability and we have representation from Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland covering acute care, primary care, mental health, independent sector, research and education. As Trustees we take every opportunity to represent our members and recent examples of this include the Your Turn Campaign, NICE Guidelines in respect of surgical wounds and currently in respect of individuals who self harm.
The benefits of membership include access to 4 educational booklets per year and 4 editions of Wound Care, a supplement published within the British Journal of Community Nursing in partnership with Mark Allen Healthcare. It is hoped to further develop our relationship with Mark Allen Healthcare to further benefit our members so watch this space for future news.
Educational booklets are also provided regularly to members. We are currently trying to catch up on the educational booklets as we have fallen below our targets, given the challenges we have faced in changing organisations. However we have booklets ready to be published in the next few months with a range of others in the pipeline. We are always looking for topics that are of interest to our members so if you have any suggestions just e mail us.
We also offer an online discussion forum for members to post professional queries, allowing all members of the WCAUK to provide support and advice to colleagues across the UK. On this note of support, the WCAUK will promote the practice of tissue viability by providing a ‘significant voice’ – raising the profile of Tissue Viability within the UK at various professional and personal levels.
WCAUK currently is looking to form associations and affiliations with other like minded organizations in order to promote all areas of Tissue Viability. We currently have an educational partnership with the Leg Club, which is very important to us and we intend to develop an affiliation with the Leg Club - more news to follow on this one.
